Vineville believes we are called to grow a Christ-like world, with a specific focus on the community surrounding the church (Pleasant Hill). We call this emphasis PleasantVille Neighbors, drawing on Jesus’ words from Matthew 22:39, “love your neighbor as yourself.” Join us as we strive to be good neighbors. If you have questions, please contact Julia Baldwin (478-477-1278 or jgbcab@yahoo.com) or see the contact people for each ministry listed below.
4 Areas of Involvement in Pleasant Hill
Faith:
- Assist with Push Start Children's Program on 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month from 10:30am-1:00pm. Male & Female Volunteers are needed to help with games, lunch, and tutoring for children ages 4-10. Push Start is held at Strong Tower Fellowship (STF).
- Volunteers to work from home or at STF to help sell donated books online. The proceeds of these sales benefit STF outreach ministry. Requirements: basic computer skills, attend a 30-minute training program, computer and internet service if working from home.
- Attend Women's Bible Study at STF with Connie Carey, leader, on Tuesdays from Noon-1:00pm, including lunch and opportunity to meet Pleasant Hill neighbors.
- Attend Men's Bible Study at STF with Rev. Tom Anderson, leader, on Thursdays from Noon-1:00pm, including lunch and opportunity to meet Pleasant Hill neighbors.
- Individually, or in small groups, occasionally attend worship services at STF to meet and offer encouragement to Pleasant Hill neighbors - Sundays 11:00am-12:30pm with a lunch following in the Fellowship Hall. Evening Service at 6:30pm.
Education:
- Volunteers to review assignments and assist GED students attending computer labs at Campus Clubs. Monday-Thursday from 9:00am-Noon. Special Need: Language, Reading, & Math. Contact Phyllis Dorn at Central Georgia Technical College for information and to schedule orientation and training as needed: pdorn@centralgatech.edu or (478) 757-2568.
- "Morningstar" tutoring at LH Williams. Vineville volunteers go into classrooms partnering with their teacher specifically in reading books, but also other needs as they arise. Contact: Jan Tripp (mvtripp@yahoo.com or 475-1715).
- "Moving Up" banquet for LH Williams 5th grade class - May 16, 2012 starting at Noon. Contact: Jan Tripp (mvtripp@yahoo.com or 475-1715).
- Allen Academy Summer Reading Program. In 2012, Vineville is partnering with Greater Allen Chapel AME and LH Williams Elementary School to work with children who have low reading levels. This will be accomplished through activities, creating original stories, using the arts, and (of course) reading. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of the weeks of July 10 - July 26th. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 9:00am and leave after the last child has gone home (around 12:30pm). Contact: Jan Tripp (mvtripp@yahoo.com or 478-475-1715).
Health:
- Pleasant Hill Community Garden – Working in the Pleasant Hill Community Garden provides two avenues of health: exercise and healthy fruits and vegetables for the community. Ongoing maintenance of the garden throughout the growing season is needed. Contact Wimberly Treadwell at wtdesign@bellsouth.net or 478-808-0391.
- "Power to Prevent" Health Fairs - Help set up, run, and clean up afterwards. These health fairs are sponsored by Community Partnerships and Pleasant Hill's "Shalom Zone" several times throughout the year. Contact Gina Greenwood at ggreenwood@bakerdonelson.com or 478-909-0665.
Services:
- Rebuilding Macon (go here for more detailed information) – Our church is partnering with Rebuilding Macon to come alongside our neighbors in the Pleasant Hill Community to do home repair and painting. In 2011, some of these projects included installing carpet, repairing broken windows, painting, and installing doors. We hope to have at least 6 work days in 2012. Contact Person: Nathan Watson (nathan@inglesidedata.com or 478-319-1978).
- “Compassion in Action” Day – On a weekend in October 2012, Vineville will partner with First Presbyterian, Strong Tower Fellowship, Reformed University Fellowship, Campus Clubs, and other organizations to impact Pleasant Hill for Christ. There will be over 20 different activities to choose from, including a Fall Festival, Teacher Appreciation Gifts, Linwood Cemetery cleanup, house repair projects, and many others. Contact Person: Dan Underwood (dan@vinevillemethodist.org or 478-745-3331).
